The Salford Valmar 246 is known for its precision in applying granular products like fertilizers, herbicides, and seeds. In this post, we will walk you through the simple steps to calibrate your Valmar 246 machine for maximum accuracy, especially when switching between granular products.
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Determine the Product Density
- Start by determining the density of the granular product you are applying. This can be done using a density scale or by referring to the product sheet for the granular product.
2. Consult the Operator’s Manual
- Refer to the flow charts in the operator’s manual to find the best match for product density and your desired application rate.
- If you don’t have the manual on hand, you can easily download the calibration section by scanning the QR code on your machine or clicking the link here.
3. Set the Gearbox
- Now that you have determined the product density and application rate, adjust the gearbox to the correct setting as indicated in the flow chart. This will ensure that the machine dispenses the right amount of product at the right rate during application.
4. Weigh the Empty Catch Container
- Before calibration
,weigh an empty catch container. You will use this to measure the product during the
- Note: Be sure to subtract the weight of the empty container from your final measurement to ensure accuracy.
5. Install Calibration Funnels
- Attach the provided calibration funnels to the machine and place the catch containers beneath each funnel. The containers will collect the product as it is dispensed during the calibration process.
6. Start the Calibration
- Now you can begin the calibration process. Activate the machine and begin calibration by running the product through the machine into the catch containers.
- Note: Crank the tire 35 full rotations to collect material equal to 1/5 of the rate per acre.
7. Weigh the Collected Product
- Now you have completed the calibration process you will Weigh the product collected in the containers. Be sure to multiply the weight of the product by 5 to get the per acre rate and subtract the weight of the container.
- Then referring to the flow chart in the operator’s manual, compare the actual weight to the expected application rate. If the weight of the collected sample multiplied by 5, does not match the expected per acre rate, adjust the gearbox settings up or down by one increment and repeat the calibration process until you achieve the correct weight.
8. Recheck and Adjust as needed
- Any time you make an adjustment, run the calibration steps again to ensure that the machine is dispensing the correct amount of product. Continue to fine-tune the settings until you achieve the application rate.
Tips and Troubleshooting:
- Always refer to the operator’s manual for complete instructions.
- Use the calibration tools provided for the most accurate readings.
- Ensure the product is evenly distributed during calibration to avoid errors.
- Remember to multiply the weight by 5 and subtract the weight of the container during calibration to confirm accuracy
By following these steps to calibrate your Salford Valmar 246 this will allow for precise application of granular products and operational efficiency.
