How to know when your I-Series or RTS wave blade is worn out - Salford Group Inc.

Maintaining the blades of your Salford equipment is crucial to ensuring efficient performance in the field. A wavy coulter is wider when its diameter is larger. As the coulter wears down, it’s diameter shrinks, and it touches less ground. This means as the blade gets smaller, it’s not able to size residue or level soil as effectively. Here are step-by-step instructions on how to determine when your I-Series or RTS 8-wave and 13-wave blades are worn out and need replacement.

Step-by-Step Instructions

1.  I-Series or RTS 13-Wave Blades

Blades wear down over time but knowing when to replace them is key to keeping your equipment running smoothly.

  • 22-inch Blade: Replace blades at max four inches of diameter wear. The blade will measure 18-inches across.
  • 20-inch Blade: Replace blades at max three inches of diameter wear. The blade will measure 17-inches across.

2. I-Series or RTS 8-Wave Blades

  • A clear sign that your 8-wave blades need replacing is shark toothing. This occurs when the inside of the blade’s flute becomes thinner from soil processing, wearing down faster than the outside of the flute.

Tips and Troubleshooting

  • Blade Performance Issue: If you are noticing decreased soil movement, less residue sizing, or generally poor performance, check the flute’s condition. Worn flutes impact the blade’s ability to grab and move soil effectively.
  • Measure Your Blades: Always measure your blades regularly and replace them before excessive wear reduces performance.
  • Ensure Best Results: Keep an eye on your blade diameter and flute sharpness. Proper maintenance will extend the life of your equipment.
  • Safety First: Always use gloves and protective gear when handling or measuring blades.

By following these simple guidelines, you will be able to keep your Salford tillage equipment running at peak performance. Proper blade maintenance ensures better soil processing and prolongs the lifespan of your machine.
