One of the biggest advantages of the BBI MagnaSpread Plus+ is its ability to quickly switch between granular and lime applications. This change-out process typically takes about 30 minutes and requires only two people. In this step-by-step guide, we’ll walk you through the lime change-out process, ensuring you do it safely and efficiently.
Preparation and Safety Measures
Before beginning the process, make sure you are wearing the proper safety gear, including:
- Safety glasses
- Steel-toed boots
Additionally, ensure that no power is running to the spinners and belt system of the MagnaSpread Plus.
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Remove the Flow Divider Adjuster
- Locate the two 3/8-inch bolts that secure the flow divider adjuster and remove them.
- There are also two bolts on each side of the spinner guard that need to be loosened.
2. Raise the Spinner Guard
- Once the bolts are loosened, pull the flow divider back and raise the spinner guard to an upright position.
- Pull the spring-loaded locking pin and align it with the corresponding hole to lock the spinner guard in place.
3. Adjust the Flow Divider
- Turn the flow divider adjuster handle counterclockwise to remove it from the flow divider.
- Take out the fertilizer flow divider and set it aside. The divider is heavy and will require two people for removal.
- Remove the fertilizer flow balancer by loosening the two 5/8-inch bolts on each side of the machine, located near the rear roller bearings. Then turning the flow balancer up slightly and pulling it towards the rear of the machine to remove.
- Install the lime flow divider, ensuring proper alignment with the guides on the back of the machine. Also ensure that there is no buildup of residue in these guides prior to installation.
- Thread the flow divider adjustment handle ensuring that cross threading does not occur.
4. Reassemble the Components
- Lower the spinner guard and tighten all previously loosened bolts.
- On the spinners – Remove the fertilizer fins and install the 7 ½” lime fins. There a 4 left hand fins and 4 right hand fins. Ensure that the dish underneath the lime spinners is clear of residue. It is also recommended to use an anti-seize product on the stainless-steel bolts securing the fins.
- Now with the lime fins installed make sure to remove the fertilizer bin screens. The over slung V in the machine can remain installed in the hopper.
5. Final Checks
- Inspect the installation to ensure all components are securely fastened.
- Check for obstructions before running the system.
- Restore power and conduct a test run to verify proper operation.
