Step-by-Step Instructions

 1. Understanding the Mesh Chain Adjustment Components

The front roller is responsible for taking out slack in the mesh chain. There are pusher rods on both the driver’s and passenger’s sides that move the bearing and the entire roller forward. Proper adjustment of these components ensures even tension and smooth operation.

2. Checking Initial Tension

  • Begin by inspecting the current tension of the mesh chain.
  • Ensure the front roller is in a neutral position before making adjustments.
  • Identify the pusher rods on both sides, as they will be used to adjust the bearing forward.

3. Adjusting the Pusher Rods

  • Turn the pusher rod to move the bearing forward.
  • Maintain an equal distance between the front of the bar and the end of the rail on both the driver’s and passenger’s sides.
  • Make small, incremental adjustments and check for symmetry after each turn.

4. Verifying the Adjustment

  • Once the pusher rods have been adjusted, inspect the chain to ensure even tension.
  • Rotate the chain manually to confirm there is no excessive slack or tightness.
  • If necessary, fine-tune the pusher rods further until the desired tension is achieved.

5. Final Inspection

  • Once you are satisfied with the adjustment, secure the pusher rods in place.
  • Run the spreader at a low speed to observe chain movement.
  • Make any last-minute adjustments if needed before resuming full operation.

Tips and Troubleshooting

  • Uneven tension: If one side is tighter than the other, readjust the pusher rods to balance the tension.
  • Chain slipping: Ensure that the roller is correctly seated and that the adjustments have not caused misalignment.
  • Excessive wear on the chain: Regularly inspect for signs of wear and replace components as necessary to avoid breakdowns.

Proper adjustment of the mesh chain is crucial for maintaining efficiency and extending the life of your BBI spreader. By following these steps, you can ensure smooth operation and prevent unnecessary wear on the chain.
