February 10, 2016 (Salford, ON) – Salford Group is proud to announce an addition to the Salford Valmar 8600 Series, the largest pull-type pneumatic applicators on the market.

In keeping with the company’s ongoing drive to increase versatility, productivity and durability in all of its equipment, Salford welcomed the addition of the 8-ton 8608 at the Farm Progress Show, in August, 2015. New for 2016, is its larger brother, the 11-ton 8611, now available in limited quantities (and selling quickly) for spring order.

The Salford Valmar products broaden the fertilizer application line, already begun by Salford and BBI with their sub-soil, and spinner spreader, precision application products. “We’re very excited to bring the 8600 Series to the National Farm Machinery Show,” said Geof Gray, CEO of Salford Group. “The engineers of Salford and Valmar have worked seamlessly to create a product that reflects the innovation and craftsmanship found consistently in the Salford and Valmar product lines. The 8611 affirms our commitment offer a complete line of competitively-priced seeding and granular application equipment to growers and service providers.”

Valmar manufactures the only pull-type pneumatic boom fertilizer applicators on the market and the 8611 is now the lineup’s largest. “We built the 8600 based on the proven technology in Valmar’s popular 7600 model,” said Jason Janzen, sales representative for Salford Valmar. “The 8600 was designed with input from producers in large-acreage farming operations in western Canada.  They wanted the accuracy of the 7600 boom applicator with a larger hopper and boom.”

The 8600 series is specifically engineered to provide farmers with increased versatility through 66, 60, 57, and 54 ft. boom widths. It comes standard with half-machine shut off, and has optional tire types. Another added feature includes the optional second metering system, available for use with the 37 cubic foot micronutrient hopper. “We offer a row crop tire option on the 8608, as well as adjustable axles or a 750/65 tire for producers that want additional floatation under the machine,” said Janzen. The axle spacing can be adjusted from 72 to 88 in., with the ability to increase to 120 in. (optional), allowing farmers to customize the machine to fit their crop and needs.

What differentiates the Salford Valmar applicators from others in the industry is their ability to maintain accuracy across the entire width of the boom and achieve an even spread pattern, even in windy conditions. 60ft booms can also be equipped with drop tubes on 30 inch spacing, allowing for inter-row application in corn and other row crops.  Fan options include a 1000 rpm PTO driven fan or a hydraulically-driven 17 in. fan which operates at 4700 rpm. Both options feed direct to the stainless steel manifold through a 9 in. outlet.

The 8600 is equipped with an impressive 8-ton/260 cubic foot hopper, made of 409 stainless steel, which is designed to minimize fill stops, and extend the life of the equipment. The 8611 features an 11-ton/357 cubic foot hopper, also made of 409 stainless steel. Both 8600 series applicators can be equipped for the delivery of two products, by adjusting the built-in hopper panel, to create two separate hoppers. This allows the spreading of herbicide, seed or micro-nutrient at the same time as applying fertilizer, with the addition of the optional second metering system.

With commanding field versatility, both the 8600 and the 8611 have a maximum application rate of 1000 lb/ac (Urea) at 8 mph, but can also apply as little as 50 lb/ac at the same speed, with a mechanical drive and the optional half rate kit. The optional second meter can achieve rates as high as 100 lb/acre and as low as 6 lb/acre min (Urea).
